Unemployed | Trevor Read I Acrylic On Canvas

£395.00

Acrylic On Canvas

Size: 53cm x 43cm x 3.3cm (Comes Framed in Black Tray Frame)

Limited Edition of 50, Individually Hand Painted

This painting belongs to a larger collection rooted in the language and coded intimacy of vintage personal advertisements, artifacts from a time when analogue connection reigned, long before dating apps and digital visibility reshaped how desire is expressed. Each work is informed by a real person or lived connection, yet deliberately avoids any contemporary digital reference, instead harking back to an era when seeking companionship, particularly within the gay community ,often required discretion, nuance, and courage. Mimicking the tone and format of back-page newspaper ads, the collection balances wit, humour, and emotional honesty, embedding subtle references and shared codes throughout. These details reward those who recognise them, because if you know, then you know.

  • Trevor, the founder, curator, and gallerist behind Adorn, is also an artist working primarily in paint and print. While his creative practice has long existed alongside his role in shaping and supporting the work of others, he has rarely chosen to present his own work publicly, often finding the act of exhibition to be an exercise in vulnerability. Recently, however, Trevor has embraced the belief that these private musings, formed through material exploration and quiet reflection, deserve to be shared, allowing the work to exist beyond the personal and enter into dialogue with a wider audience.
