GAVIN DOBSON

PAINTER | PRINT MAKER

Originally from the North East of England, Gavin Dobson graduated in Fine Art in 2000 and has been building his profile and portfolio as an artist specialising in painting and screen printing, often combining the two, which helps communicate his chosen narrative. He uses both vivid colours and expressive strokes to create engaging and lively pieces.

His recent abstract series ‘Landscapes of the Mind’ used the fluidity and movement of the paint to convey how an environment can affect one's state of thinking. For the past three years, Gavin has been a member of London's Print Club. This serves as a great creative work space and a hub to maintain and expand connections with other artists as well as experiment with techniques and push the boundaries of what screenprints can be. He was one of twenty artists chosen to create and exhibit at Somerset House as part of their Summer Screen Season with Film 4. Gavin's screenprints often depict colourful, nostalgic images, they are iconic designs which are both humorous ornamentation and invite an opening for conversation. He has a background in graphic novels and his illustrations have been featured in many organisations, including editorial artwork for 'Gay Times' and book cover designs for Bloomsbury. Bridgeman Images recently licensed his commercial artwork and he has exhibited with them twice. Gavin's ongoing dedication has led to various interviews surrounding his work and being featured in 'The Times' by the art critic Nancy Durrant as part of her 'Great Art Gift Guide'.
