  • Mark Jackson may be an emerging artist, but there’s nothing tentative about his work. His paintings carry a raw, assured energy—painterly, unapologetic, and deliberate. There’s a voyeuristic charge to his gaze: subjects are caught in moments of undress or placed in fetishistic, often ambiguous scenarios—clad only in underwear and socks, their vulnerability heightened, their agency uncertain.

There’s a deliberate discomfort here. Jackson isn’t offering easy narratives or tidy moral framing. Instead, he lingers in the grey areas—where desire, shame, exposure, and control meet. His figures are not merely observed; they are framed, studied, captured—like stills from an interrupted scene, hinting at what came before or might follow. It’s unsettling, intimate, and strangely magnetic.

Despite the charged content, the work doesn’t rely on shock. Jackson’s confident handling of paint—loose, layered, almost casual in its execution—grounds each piece in a physicality that mirrors the emotional terrain he’s exploring. It’s seductive, but not slick; sensual, but never sentimental. In a visual culture saturated with performance and pose, his work dares to pause, to look longer, and to ask what it really means to be seen.
